MORE THAN A FIRE SERVICE
ATOMIX Kft. Fire Fighting and Damage Prevention Branch

Working at Paks NPP Fire Service as a fire fighter is a job with special responsibilities. The specific significance of NPP Fire Service – or more exactly, ATOMIX Kft. Fire Fighting and Damage Prevention Branch – activities derives from the fact that they are closely linked to the overall safety and security of the Nuclear Power Plant and, as such, radically differ from the work of other fire services. Protection of the Nuclear Power Plant is not confined merely to the usual protection of the Plant’s immediate environment, but also exerts an influence on the general safety of the country as a whole and its population. Staff members serving as firemen should have NPP-specific local knowledge and skills in addition to being aware of general fire fighting strategy and tactics.

NPP Fire Service or, more exactly, Fire Fighting and Damage Prevention Branch has been one of the most important and powerful branches of ATOMIX Kft. since the very inception, and provides a strong basis for ATOMIX activities. When I assumed the duties of managing director at ATOMIX, I found it to be a well-functioning professional organization. I can say that now, after more than 10 long years, the same applies to our Fire Service.

In the meanwhile, the scope of Fire Service responsibilities has expanded as, by now, it is deeply involved in various procedures at all ATOMIX branches. For example, NPP Fire Service performs activities related to areas such as quality management, occupational health & safety, fire protection regulations, IT tasks and maintenance of external relations. Considering that ATOMIX’s quality management is concentrated in NPP Fire Service, the Fire Chief also holds the position of Quality Assurance Manager.

These tasks and close interrelations with other branches have just made NPP Fire Service an even stronger pillar of the company. NPP Fire Service is a long-established and well-functioning organization that sets a good example for how a well-organized branch must operate within a disciplined framework, and how it should enhance its own sustainable development through disciplined work.

NPP Fire Service’s 100% availability and assistance to the Nuclear Power Plant in a wide range of plant operations from craning work to elevator rescue and ambulance service are but a few examples. Work discipline at, and reliability of, NPP Fire Service affect all ATOMIX fields of activity and have a significant influence on certain power plant procedures.
