Come to See Us

Senior Lecturer in the Department of Built Environment at the University of Central Lancashire, England Prof. Dr. Ronald Barham, hosted by the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, paid a visit to Paks Nuclear Power Plant 14 February 2007

Mr. Barham has been investigating and analysing disaster situations for long years to report, in lectures and seminaries, on the conclusions drawn from worldwide events. Arriving in Hungary, he delivered lectures in Budapest, then visited to the Nuclear Power Plant, Paks and the Directorate for Disaster Management of Tolna County, Szekszárd.

In the Nuclear Power Plant, Head of Industrial Safety Section Gábor Volent and Fire Chief Péter Bőhm received the guest professor and the experts accompanying him, Head of HR and Training Section of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management László Babák, Chief Counsellor of the International Section Csaba Csendes and Director of Directorate for Disaster Management of Tolna County Antal Mácsai.

Following the briefing in the Power Plant’s Visitor Centre, the guests visited the plant area where they saw the control room of the 4th block, the turbine hall, and the reactor hall of the 2nd block. As a closing to the programme, our guests were also hosted by the Fire Brigade. Fire Chief Péter Bőhm provided an overview of the Plant Fire Brigade’s equipment, means and information on the diverse activities of the Fire Brigade, among others their tasks in the prevention and management of disaster situations and technical rescue operations, training of the staff and the results scored so far.

At the end of the visit, Prof. Ronald Barham expressed his satisfaction with what he had seen and learnt at the Nuclear Power Plant and the Fire Brigade. He said that the Fire Brigade’s training system and performance appraisal made a deep impression on him. He expressed his intention to convey, at his Department that has developed a wide international outlook and met with high appreciation, all the information he obtained here to other firemen, experts and company executives concerned. He was glad to observe that he learnt here lots of information that were new to him though he had already been to several places and received masses of information.

In 2003 and 2004, we revised and improved our system. The improvement consisted in revisions and necessary amendments to various documents prompted by the changing requirements imposed by our customer on the suppliers. We have integrated the requirements for the new suppliers in our own system that we subject to the customer for attestation in 2004. We received the certificate a year after the first audit, while the next one three years later in 2006.
