Otto von Habsburg in Paks
After 20 June 2005, Dr. Otto von Habsburg paid another visit to Paks Nuclear Power Plant on 20 April 2009. CEO János Süli welcomed Dr. Otto von Habsburg, considered as the father of the pan-European idea, an outstanding representative of universal humanism, the personification of Europeanism, a committed supporter of Hungary and a true ally and friend of Paks Nuclear Power Plant and the City of Paks, and informed him on the challenges before the Power Plant.
His Excellency said at the meeting that had welcomed the fact the Hungarian Parliament had adopted a preliminary policy statement on 30 March, by which it approved of the commencement of preparations for the extension of Paks Nuclear Power Plant. He expressed the hope that Paks Nuclear Power Plant, already considered to be a safe partner in the electricity supply in Hungary, would become an even more important factor in the Hungarian electricity system.
The honorary President of the Pan-European Union emphasized that he was convinced that the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy would contribute to creating a livable environment and resulting in sustainable development.
Following the exploratory meeting, Dr. Otto von Habsburg visited the site that will eventually accommodate the planned block(s), stressing that he was eager to visit Hungary all the more because he loved the community that puts its faith in the future, works hard and thereby maintains the energy security of Hungary.
