20-Year-Old NPP Fire Service
This year, our full-time industrial fire department has celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment. On this occasion, our NPP-based knights of flames have created a festive book with stories and events, looking back on two decades.
It was ten years ago that our firemen issued the first book on their everyday work and life. Both then and now, Balázs Kováts introduced the volumes. At the celebration held on 13 October 2010, the chief engineer in charge of regional relations presented in detail the book edited by Mrs. Zoltánné Lovászi, praising firemen’s preparedness and multifaceted skills. He emphasized that NPP Fire Service was the first in Europe to become certified to ISO 9002:1994 for fire fighting and damage control activities. Also, he underlined the openness of the organization, and that they took part in many public events, and were regular participants at open days and children’s days. He also spoke about the popularity of beach football games ‘Tűzkakas’. At the end of his presentation, also filled with personal memories, Mr. Kováts wished all the best to the staff.
In agreement with the previous speaker, PA Zrt. CEO István Hamvas stressed that the organization would, in all probability, survive the nuclear power plant itself since it would have to continue operating over the 20-year period of remediation, decommissioning and disassembly, too. István Hamvas deemed it important that everything was OK at NPP Fire Service and that they did their far-reaching work in perfect quality. With regard to the blocks expected to be built, the CEO wished successful and problem-free work for another 80 years.
In his closing speech, Fire Chief Péter Bőhm (on the left of the picture, taking over the cup made in memory of the event from the representative of the professional municipal fire departments of Tolna County) expressed his thanks to all who had helped set up the Fire Service. Then, he also made a mention of former NPP CEOs, Atomix heads, the competent authorities and the politicians who all had lent a helping hand in the establishment and the provision of the best possible conditions for operation.
