Trainings At NPP Fire Service
FIRST AID MEASURES
Passing an Exam on Resuscitation and Treatment of Patients
Paks, Hungary
In the field of first aid training, NPP Fire Service has changed over to more efficient methods from this year on. From 2011, healthcare members of the Fire Service personnel have to take part in a training programme prepared by the Hungarian Red Cross and conducted at the Institute for Basic and Continuing Education of Health Workers, an educational institute offering high-level accredited courses in first aid measures to be completed with a final exam. Examination tasks include resuscitation in general as well as the treatment of patients shocked by electricity, care for the drowning, those with burns, the unconscious ones and spasmodic patients, and on-site health rescue measures in mass accidents.
These days, members of NPP Fire Service’ qualified staff of ambulance attendants participate in a training course accredited by the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Pécs. Fire and Rescue Head István Schreiner emphasizes that an ongoing training programme is in place with NPP Fire Service as their goal is to meet customer demands at the highest possible level. The quality management system in place since 1999 is one of the key drivers of their operation. They were the first throughout Europe to set up a quality management system in fire-fighting and damage prevention.
Also, they are committed to searching for the best solutions and practices in their core activity, i.e. fire prevention as well as damage and injury elimination. They have regular drills with the participation of the operative personnel of Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd., with the results being properly documented to adapt operational tactics to the experience drawn practice. Within the framework of these drills, the operative staff provides firemen with technological and local knowledge, while the NPP-based knights of flames teach the operative personnel of the Power Plant on theoretical issues of combustion and fire-fighting, the rules to observe when damage events occur, the use of personal protective equipment and other useful pieces of knowledge.
Recently, Director General of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management dr. György Bakondi has paid a visit to the barracks of NPP Fire Service to obtain information on the systems in place.
