Written about us

Paks - Poland - Dunaújváros

NPP Fire Service team has gained a lot of experience in Poland where they took part in an international civil protection exercise held with the participation of 1,000 people. As Fire and Rescue Head István Schreiner, team commander, reported, a delegation of 23 had arrived from Hungary, including search and rescue dog handlers, ambulance staff, contingency detection personnel and fire fighters, i.e. groups that had never worked together up to then. They soon managed to touch base, and were efficient in cooperating with one another during the exercise.

A staff command and simulation exercise was held on the first day. Two trains, one loaded with hazardous chemical waste and another one full of with football fans, were assumed to have a crash. The simulated accident was the result of a conscious decision as one of exercise goals was to test emergency response capabilities during high profile events such as next year's UEFA European Football Championship, EURO 2012. Then, a 2-day field exercise followed. The first task assigned to the Hungarian team was to search for the dead and survivors in the ruins of a building collapsed following a gas explosion.

The next alarm was given to the Hungarian rescue team at night, and our team was ready to move out to the place of incident in 5 minutes. A simulated train accident in a chemical plant resulted in the leakage of unknown toxic substances from a railway tank car. However, the most intricate exercise assumed a situation where a train carrying football fans and another train loaded with hazardous chemical substances collided. Also, a forest fire caused by sparks set a large cooling tank in a nearby chemical factory on fire. Attended by Polish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovakian and EU leaders, a complex exercise was conducted on the last day of the international civil protection event. From Paks, László Szintai, Rajmund Pesztericz, Tamás Szabó, Tibor Váncsodi, József Farkas, István Wolf and János Cseh took part, besides István Schreiner, in EU Carpathex 2011.

The NPP Fire Service personnel have raised the reputation of the City of Paks and its operating company, ATOMIX Kft., not only in Carpathex 2011 but also in a nationwide professional competition. They have won all events at the 15th National Competition of Full-time Industrial Fire Brigades held in Dunaújváros, Hungary with a gold medal performance in obstacle course run, mini pumper and wall hydrant assembly, as well as in combination.
Our outstanding team of András Apró, Attila Dénes, Tamás Gyöngyösi, János Hingl, József Horváth, István Kovács, Szilárd Papp, Ferenc Széles, Attila Szénási and Lajos Vázsonyi was headed by István Major.
